So, there I was. Sitting peacefully at work, minding my own business as #2 on the board, when I suddenly get a call from dispatch sending me to Burnside, KY. It’s at this point that I deduced that, because no one came in for a run, the #1 on the board didn’t want to go out that far this late in the evening. That leaves it up to me, because there’s only two of us on the board right now, so I have no one to pass the buck to tonight.
It could be worse; and it yet may be. This is a relief job, which means I am taking men to a train and picking up whoever is on it. If they are based in Danville (another 90 minutes further away) then it could potentially turn into a 10-12 hour trip.
I don’t mind, to be completely honest. I like the longer trips and really like the money 💰 from the work. It’s just that RJK has a very important appointment tomorrow morning early, and I’m not sure when I will get back. Guaranteed that I will get no rest until after the appointment. I also have an appointment tomorrow, but it’s a phone call and I don’t have to go anywhere to take care of it. Depending on the timing of things, I may have to take a personal day tomorrow just because I may be too tired to safely do my job. I won’t drive others if I don’t feel safe in doing so.
