You know, Stinky isn’t the first truck that I’ve ever owned. I’ve had a Dodge and a couple of Fords before him. I have to say, however, he is the best truck I have ever owned.

I cannot say that all the other trucks were automatic and I like him because he’s a stick shift. I had a Chevrolet once that had a stick shift on the column. I also can’t say that I like him because of any sort of fancy extra he might have. The only extra thing he seems to have is an air conditioner. Manual windows, manual locks, manual transmission, you name it and it’s probably manual.

I simply like this truck because it is this truck. I’ve always had a really good feel for this truck. It handles the mountain almost as well as other cars that I have owned. It’s not as hard on gas as it could be being a six-cylinder truck.

He was purchased from a CarMart when we were really needing another vehicle. At the time we were there, they only had two trucks. One was a Chevy that was loaded out with electric windows and air conditioning and AM FM, CD player, etc. The other was Stinky.

Now, before you get too judgmental, is nickname is Stinky is because well, within a week of our owning him he hit a skunk. That smell followed him around for days. Rosie constantly referred to him as my stinky truck, and I guess the nickname stuck as well as the scent did.

Price wasn’t a factor when I purchased him. The total cost of ownership for either one of the trucks was about the same. However, that manual transmission caught my eye, and the bright red paint caught my heart. It wasn’t long before we were taking Stinky home.

Stinky is not perfect. He needs some electrical work, it wouldn’t hurt for him to have a bath. He could use a couple of dents, pulled out of his body and a couple of his lenses replaced as they’re getting old and cracked by time.

However, he’s perfect for me.
